Siva Addiction, a hard rock band from Oklahoma City, performed an impressive thirty-minute acoustic set in the Hot Topic of Lawton’s Central Mall on May 27, 2010. Rows of merchandise were moved for a standing-room only performance. There were no microphones, speakers or amplifiers – the pure, unadulterated sound reached a small but cozy audience. Two acoustic guitars, an acoustic rhythm bass and a tribal-style drum accompanied singer Bridgette Oliver’s beautiful, haunting vocals. “Sticks and Stones,” the opener, and “Promises” retained the hardcore feel of the hard rock genre even with acoustics being used. “Rodeo,” which will appear on their upcoming album, was plenty heavy; “Death of a Butterfly” featured a mighty buildup to a song made for head-thrashing. The set closed with their current single “Dirty Secret,” and appropriately so: it had a familiar rock sound without being too mainstream. While the band expressed a desire to perform with their usual electric instruments, they proved to be solid without them.
After the performance, I was able to interview the band about their history and future, and their take on music in Oklahoma.
Taylor B: Where did your band name come from? What’s the significance?
Bridgette Oliver (vocals): Pronounced “see-va,” it’s Sanskrit for “one who is destined for success.”
Taylor B: So you could say you’re addicted to success?
BO: Absolutely!

That’s right. Mother Nature is getting cranky again and we’ve already seen what she can do this season. In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, which doesn’t sound like a bad idea, all things considered, we’ve already seen a fair share of severe thunderstorms in our area. A few of those have even produced significant, long run tornadoes.
